We're off! Поехали!

Wow! Вот это да!

Not only did our amazing 324 backers take us past our needed goal before July 31, but they exceeded that goal by $5000, which will make the book bilingual. Amazing!

There have also been some off-line donations that will take us even further, and we will be allowing additional purchases of the book through the project website (soon to be released), in hopes that we can get past the second stretch goal, to make the books hardcover.

Meanwhile, things are beginning to pick up steam in our preparations for the trip. As noted previously, Nikon Russia signed on as a sponsor, and just a few days ago Volkswagen agreed to supply our trans-Russia vehicle.

And now the Big Reveal promised if we reached our first stretch goal: If this project goes well this fall, we will follow it up in 2016 with a second, even more ambitious trip – from Alaska (once known as Russian-America) to Maine, to get the "American side" of the Russian-American story.

More on that as it develops. For now we are focused on deep research for the trip, planning and logistics. The next you hear from us will be a poll to gather your contact information, and the announcement of the opening of the project website, which will be at http://spineofrussia.org (which for now points to the Kickstarter page).

Again, thank you all, this is going to be an amazing journey, and we look forward to having you along for the ride!

We just crossed the funding goal. Urah!! The Spine of Russia trip is on!

Thank you to ALL our BACKERS for making this possible.

But we're not stopping here! There are still six days left in the project and if we raise just a bit more over those few days, we can make the books bilingual and hardcover!

Again, thank you. We guarantee the resulting book, website and adventure will not disappoint.
